 The history of Winthrop, Washington, in the Methow Valley, dates back to the time of the Native Americans, who thrived along the banks of the Methow, Twisp, and Chewuch Rivers. These indigenous people sustained themselves through gathering camas root, harvesting berries, and engaging in fishing and hunting. The first European arrivals in the valley were trappers in the 1800s.
