 The Winthrop Balloon Roundup is a captivating winter Festival held annually in Winthrop, Washington. This unique event brings together the magic of hot air balloons with the stunning beauty of the snow-capped North Cascades. 

For over two decades, the Roundup has captivated locals and visitors alike with its breathtaking displays of colorful balloons soaring against a backdrop of pristine winter landscapes. Winthrop Balloon Roundup takes place every year in the first weekend or March. The 2015 event is scheduled for Feb 28 to March 2. Save the date for next year and make your plans early. The 2026 Balloon Festival will be March 6 to 8, 2026.

The Winthrop Balloon Roundup Festival Corral is located just behind the Winthrop Inn. 960 State Route 20, Winthrop, WA 98862

Parking is very limited. The closest parking area is the Methow Valley Thriftway, located adjacent to the Balloon Launch Corral. Do not park on the highway or at Ace Hardware. We suggest carpooling with others. Dress warmly, as you might have to walk a little distance to the Corral.

Absolutely! Everyone is invited to experience the awe-inspiring spectacle. Witness the wonder of hot air ballooning free of charge. Balloon inflation takes about 20 minutes per balloon. Watch as the colorful balloon appear to rise from the ground like giant multi colored easter eggs.

We never know the exact amount of Balloonist who will attend but typically 15 to 20 balloons will paint the skies above the snow-capped peaks of Winthrop, Washington. It's a sight you won't soon forget! 

Don't miss a moment! The festival offers incredible photo ops. Imagine capturing the majestic balloons inflating against the stunning mountain backdrop. Be sure to attend the Saturday evening balloon glow in downtown Winthrop? Pure magic! You can stand right under the balloons as they use their Burners to turn the balloons into 9 story tall lanterns.

Spend the day strolling though historic Winthrop. The town is filled with many gift shops, restaurants and event centers. Come and and stay the night or weekend.

A hot air balloon glow event is a magical sight to behold! Imagine a street filled with 3 to 4 brightly colored hot air balloons, tethered to the ground and illuminated from within by the Propane Burner that keeps the balloons hot. The balloons glow like giant lanterns, casting a soft, bright yellow light on the surrounding area. The colors are stunning, ranging from deep blues and purples to bright reds and yellows. Most balloons have special color designs or patterns. The sight is truly breathtaking and creates a magical atmosphere. People gather to watch the balloons glow, often enjoying music and food. It's a great way to spend an evening with family and friends, and to create lasting memories.
